Kshama Sawant, Ty Moore, and Socialist Alternative Campaigns
Socialist Alternative has been making local headway with its campaigns for city council in Minneapolis, Seattle, and Boston. The Boston campaign for Seamus Whelan seems to have been unsuccessful, but the campaigns for Kshama Sawant in Seattle and Ty Moore in Minneapolis have the potential for success. Socialist Alternative is a nationwide socialist organization that has Marxist political roots, particularly Trotskyist, but they don't seem to talk much about ideology in their political campaigns (which I like, but many Marxists disagree with this), rather they try to focus on broad solutions and alternatives they can implement. What do members here think? I like these campaigns, I like their rhetoric, tactics, and broad base of support, but I want to know what you all think.

No problem with a more socialist approach PROVIDED it does not eliminate my right to defend myself and family against the violent criminals that our society has created. I like a naturally social"ist" community where people work together for the good of all without government interference. For some reason any form of government control scares me. I like Swiss style "socialism" if you will. Probably the closest to utopia except for the expense of living there. The people ARE the military in Switzerland, and they mind their own business when it comes to illegal wars. I just never want to see my government morph into what the former Soviet Union became where gays live in fear of beatings and freedom of speech is verboten unless you agree with the "state"! Bernie Sanders WAS a socialist who became an Independent who defends the constitution. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernie_Sanders

By defending yourself, if you are referring to gun ownership I don't think the government should do much to quell it, gun rights are too much a part of our culture. But that is provided that you have to get a permit to carry/conceal them in public, which is a good licensing process.
I'm not for a social democratic bureaucratic mess like Britain in the 1960s with even ministries banning immoral radio stations, I want a more community-based socialism that puts certain resources and institutions like gas/electric, public transit, and city services in the community's hands rather than the current market model which makes these services/institutions private monopolies.

I can agree with that! Like Quaker I also don't want the government controlling me, just let the government control the evil corporations that also seek to control me! We do need a social net and healthcare, but not intrusion by bureaucrats into my personal business.

No one will take my guns or right to carry. Not because I am a Repubtard, but because I want to defend my freedom from Repubtards and others who seek to control me. The Repubtards are far more destructive than the Libtards. I prefer my freedom and right to live my life the way I want as long as I don't interfere with others rights to do the same! I agree with healthcare as long as it is a SINGLE PAYER system that is an OPTION!

Well, if by optional you mean that you can refuse care I agree, but optional in that only those who opt-in pay for it I disagree. Perhaps medical care cooperatives could be an alternative, but because we still live in centralized liberal democracy I'd rather support a single-payer system that is universal and make all citizens pay for it just like public schools and infrastructure, I do believe in the idea of public institutions and public responsibility for those institutions.

IMHO your should be able to refuse care, but under a FAIR Single Payer system it would be FREE for anyone making under LIVEABLE wage as calculated in each region. Then it would be an increasing sliding scale as you make more money. That is FAIR! Under Obamacare McDonalds is Exempt. The worker is forced to buy it and fined if he or she fails to sign up. That is an ATROCITY against humanity to make a poor person making $8.50 HR have to choose between food, gas, rent and NOW a $160/Month "Bronze" plan! Liveable wage is around $16 an hour last time I checked in many areas!BanjoRed91 wrote:Well, if by optional you mean that you can refuse care I agree, but optional in that only those who opt-in pay for it I disagree.
